Quote by Ira Glass. Poster: Artist Unknown
When I read this quote by Ira Glass on npr's fresh air, I recognized
a whole lotta my unfinished projects in it. It so eloquently and
precisely pinpoints the gap between what our mind wants us to accomplish
and our wily nily, hard scrabble process of getting there. For myself,
a BIG gap I'm experiencing right now are the "end notes" that I've been
working on and designing for these blog pages. I don't really like the
ones that I've been drawing and writing myself and I was going to jettison
them because they're often cheesy and sometimes even condescending - both
things, I can assure you, very far removed from my original intent. After
reading and absorbing this, especially the solution, which is DO A LOT
OF WORK, I think I'll continue on for awhile. Maybe, just maybe, I'll
be able to write with the clarity and ease that I envision. Until then,
I'm sorry to say, we're going to have to deal with a few clunkers.
So, do you have anything that might be falling into this gap? A story,
art, photography, sewing, knitting, etc? Shoot me an email if you'd like
or leave a comment - I'm beginning to think it's better if we get our
clunkers out in the open and get some feedback!

The gorgeous painting below, Dark Roses on Light Background, was
painted by Henri Fantin-Latour in 1891. A not so subtle reminder
of how long our creative projects live to be enjoyed and
appreciated beyond our own life time - no matter how successful at
the time, (or not) our creative endeavors are when we put them out in the
the big wide blue we live on. So take the plunge, put yourself on a
weekly deadline and DO A LOT OF WORK!
